History

Vortek, a division of Daktronics, is a world leader in the design and manufacturing of automated rigging systems for theatrical, architectural and arena applications.

Vortek’s rich history began in 1917. Long recognized as a leader for its excellence and innovation in theatre rigging, the New York-based company also excelled in the manufacturing of robust and reliable scoreboard hoist systems. Daktronics, the world’s largest supplier of large-format LED display systems worked together with the rigging company on sports projects. After a decade-long business relationship, Daktronics acquired the rigging company in 2006.

This acquisition represents a partnership between the financially stable, publicly traded, engineering-driven company of Daktronics, and the experienced, multi-generational hoist company of Vortek. Daktronics and Vortek mark the next milestone in automated rigging for all performance spaces.
